Today we continued working on counting, organizing and taking inventory in Math. We were really excited to see when we noticed one group of our friends started using cups to put 10 markers into. They ended up having 11 cups of markers with 2 left over. We found it so much easier to count by 10's to keep track of our number. After a little while we saw another group that was sorting and organizing books and they used a similar strategy but made bundles of 5. We are hoping we can continue to sort and organize tomorrow and continue to strengthen our efficiency when working with counting and numbers.
REMINDERS:
- No school on Friday as it is a PD Day for students
- Fundraiser form went homes yesterday

This morning we continued developing our story writing plans with Ms. MacDonald. We also began a new Math challenge. We are helping to take inventory of items in our classroom. We came up with a few great counting strategies today but it was very difficult for some of us who had a larger amount of objects. We will continue to work on this challenge tomorrow and conference with our peers to develop efficient counting and tracking strategies.

This afternoon we found out our new Inquiry groups. Our groups are bear, owl, skunk, wolf and cougar. Ask me which group I am part of.
REMINDER:
- Tomorrow is inline skating. Please bring helmets and socks tomorrow.

This morning we continued our story writing with Ms. MacDonald. We worked on solving our problem in the story we were writing. Ask me what my problem was and what my solution to my problem was...
1) CrAZy hair pyjama day/assembly: Tomorrow is crAZy hair pyjama day! Students are welcome to dress in their pyjama's and even bring their favorite book and stuffy to school tomorrow.
We will start the morning with an assembly in the gym. Parents are encouraged to come read with their child in the morning in the gym. We will also be meeting a special guest tomorrow around 10am who is going to read to us as well.

Today was the first day of Literacy Week! We practiced DEAR (drop everything and read!) and we also listened to Ms. Sparks read an excerpt from a Robert Munsch book and we all tried guessing which book it was from! Students are welcome to bring their favourite books to school throughout the week to have with them. Please label the books.
Today in Math we began a new challenge with our partner. We worked with 9 small triangles that each had 3 numbers on them. Our task was to try and fit all 9 triangles into the larger triangle but the catch was that if any side was touching another side it had to add to 10 and be the same colour! We worked on our stamina with this challenge as we often had to start over when we were so close to the end because we didn't have the numbers that we needed left over!

This morning in Math we worked to find the ways to break 7 blocks into 2 groups.

Together we realized that there are 6 different ways. Ms. Percival challenged us to try breaking 8 blocks and seeing how many ways it can be done. We realized that it is important to record our information in order because when we did that we started to see some really cool patterns!
Ask me what patterns I see in the following:
1+6=7
2+5=7
3+4=7
4+3=7
5+2=7
6+1=7
Also, I can tell you why 1+6=7 and 6+1=7 are different even though it has the same numbers.
1) Fun Lunch/snack form: Fun lunch and snack day order forms were sent home yesterday.

Today in Inquiry students worked to create NEW animals with various adaptations. Ask me about the animal I created and what it's adaptations are.

We also learned a new Math game called Guess My Number. We used 10 cubes and put them behind our backs and only pulled out a few. Our partner had to guess how many were behind our back if they got the number correct they got a point. You can play this at home with me using 10 other small items.

This morning we read 'Stuck.' We started to write our very own stuck stories. These stories are pretty silly! If you would like to read the story you can click here
In Math we continued to talk about number lines. Ask me what ways you can count using a number line. Ms. Percival challenged us to find hidden number lines around the room and record the missing numbers.
1) Toys, cards and personal items: Although there have been many blue days, students are encouraged to to use manipulatives from around the classroom such as building blocks, markers, games etc. instead of bringing toys from home. We have had many issues with toys and cards going missing so we are encouraging all students to leave these items safe and sound at home. Thanks for your cooperation!
2) Home Reading: Due to Kindergarten registration there will be no home reading exchange tomorrow. Book exchange at the Learning Commons will remain open tomorrow for students to take advantage of.

This morning in Writing we learned about "Fancy Nancy" words. These are fancy words that mean the same as a regular word we would use. Ask me about a fancy word for 'eat' and 'car'. We're excited to use these fancy words to make our writing more exciting!

In Inquiry we watched a video all about animal adaptations. We also learned that animals have basic needs and sometimes they have to adapt to get these basic needs. The basic needs are water, shelter, air and food.
1. Ms MacDonald has a sub in tomorrow so I will be unable to answer any emails. I will be happy to respond to any emails Monday. Thanks
2. Toys, cards, and other personal items: We are asking students to please leave all toys, cards and other personal items at home. Often these toys and cards go missing and it's difficult to identify what belongs to who. Thank you for your understanding.

Today in Math we had to work together as a class to build a number line to 30. We found out that it's very important to put numbers in their place on the number line or else the numbers won't be in order. Together we fixed our number line so that all of the numbers had a place on the line.
In Inquiry we finished reading our animal teeth book then we created an illustration of what it would look like if we had animal teeth. Ask me which animal I drew and what I would do if I had that animal's teeth.

We had a wonderful first day back after the break!
In writing today we got our very own words, words words, books where we can look up words to help us with our spelling. Ask me how I looked up a word today.
During math we had a math challenge today. You can play this with me at home. All you need are some dominos. First flip over all the dominos. Once they are all flipped over you will select a domino to flip over. Then draw the number of dots that are on the domino and write an addition sentence. Ask me about the dominos I flipped over.
