Jun 27

Today we had a wonderful trip to the wetlands. We examined some of the specimens from the wetlands. Ask me about what I saw.


1) Reusable Bag: Students are asked to please bring a reusable bag to school next week. We will begin to send home student work and items may not fit into their backpacks. Please send these ASAP. Students can keep the cloth or reusable bag on their coat hook until it's needed. 

Special Events happening next week: 


Wednesday, June 28th - Fun Lunch BBQ: students will eat lunch outside on this day. If you have not ordered fun this for this day, students will need to bring a lunch to school. 

Thursday, June 29th - Board Games: Students will say goodbye to their Grade 3 buddies and have some time to play a board game or puzzle with them. If your child would like to bring a board game to school they are encouraged to do so.

Next week is going to be full of fun events at Royal Oak School as we get ready to say farewell for the summer!

Monday, June 26 - Teddy Bear Picnic: Grade one students will be having an outside teddy bear picnic (indoors if it rains!) Students are encouraged to bring a stuffy and blanket to sit on and maybe an extra snack for that day! 

Tuesday, June 27th - Wetlands Trip: Weather permitting we are hoping to take a trip to the wetlands with our Grade 3 buddies to do some pond dipping. If you have volunteer clearance and are available to come along with us please e-mail Ms. MacDonald.

REMINDERS:

If you have a shoebox you could give your child to build a James and the Giant Peach diorama we will begin building Monday. Thank you to everyone who has already brought a box to school.

Today we had a fabulous field trip to Reader Rock Garden. We had the opportunity to explore the gardens and learn about William Reader's vision for Reader Rock Garden and how it took formation. Ask me about something I learned or did today.


1) Summer Reading!
Calgary Reads has put together a summer reading package that parents and students are encourage to use this summer. This will encourage students to continue reading and writing practice before Grade 2. Package includes incentives and tracking sheets the students can use. Please view and print the package here.

June 7

This morning we had lots of fun going back to Kindergarten! The Kindergarten students came to visit Grade 1 to see what it is going to be like and we got to go back to Kindergarten, we thought that was so fun! 

This afternoon we finished reading James and the Giant Peach. Ask me what I think happens once the story ends. We also had gym and music this afternoon.

Today was a beautiful day for bike to school day! We had so many bikes in the gym! 
                        

                             Scholastic Book Orders are due tomorrow


1) Leadership Club Fundraiser: The leadership club is raising money to help support ROS Naturalization project. 
The Naturalization committee is designing an outdoor space that will be inviting for classes to explore, learn and reflect in a comfortable and inviting area outside of their classrooms. The space is in the process of being developed and designed by the Naturalization committee and club. We are excited to support this exciting new outdoor space. We are selling Circle of Courage bracelets and they are $2 each. Please bring in a toonie this week to help support our Naturalization committee. 

2) Reader Rock Garden field trip: Please sign and fill in the acknowledgment of risk forms and make a payment online. Unfortunately, we will be limited in the number of volunteers who can accompany us on the trip. If you are available and have your volunteer clearance please email Ms. MacDonald.  I will draw your name tomorrow from all available volunteers.



Year end reminders: 
Any students with outstanding books from the Learning Commons are asked to return these books by June 2nd.

Ms. MacDonald will be away till Tuesday and will respond to any emails when she returns on Tuesday. If there are any immediate concerns please contact the office.

Today we had an amazing Sport's Day. Ask me about my favourite station.

1) Bike to school Day: Our annual Bike to School Day is fast approaching. On Tuesday June 6th students are encouraged to bike to school. Last year we had incredible participation from our ROS families! We are hoping for even more participation this year! Bikes will be stored in the gymnasium and doors will open at 8:30. More information on this event will be sent home soon. Please refer to Ms. Percival's blog for more information regarding this event.

2) Reader Rock Garden field trip: Please sign and fill in the acknowledgment of risk forms and make a payment online. Unfortunately, we will be limited in the number of volunteers who can accompany us on the trip. If you are available and have your volunteer clearance please email Ms. MacDonald.  I will draw your name next Wednesday from all available volunteers.

3) Scholastic Book Orders - Last order of Grade 1!: Please return this form by June 7th. If you would like to purchase any reading materials for your child for the summertime, this will be our last order of Grade 1.
